This is an account of how I built a pond during the months of August, September and October 2000, and continued it during 2001. The project is not yet complete, and I shall update this site as the pond progresses.

I will highlight the successes, problems and, particularly, the mistakes I made along the way.

The Pond

The pond was to have the following attributes:-

• Quite large (at least 20 feet across). I shall leave metric measures to those who can understand them.
• Access for the frogs, newts, birds etc which inhabit my garden.
• Deep enough for British wild fish, especially Carp, Rudd and other small fish yet to be decided.

On completion of the first pond I built a second on the soil I dug from the first.  The two would then be joined by a waterfall.
